PATRIOTIC WORK

WELLINGTON ORGANISATION

(Per Press Association—Copyright).

WELLINGTON, September 5

The Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. Ay l.lislop) announced to-day that plans, are being drawn up for presentation as a basis of discussion to a public meeting within a few days, at which a central organisation to coordinate the work ahd patriotic endeavour of citizens of Wellington will be set up. “There is the widest scope for citizens to assist,’’ said Mr Hislop, “but that assistance will be given the best" result if the plan is complete and if everyone and every organisation is working to a common end.”

Speaking in a general way,, before preliminary plans were in any degree complete,' the idea was: To set up a mayor’s patriotic fund as a central fund from which donations could be given to the cause generally, either directly or through ether organisations, .as in money or materials to men and women doing national work here or abroad or to their dependants; to set up groups of women to make up materials for the use both of soldiers and of their dependants here or abroad ; to help look after the comfort of troops and others doing national work; generally to organise in any helpful way for those and all other objects that may help in the national cause.

A meeting of women will be called by the Mayoress as soon as the preliminary plans are advanced, and within a week the whole scheme should be under way, Mr Hislop said.
