Support for the establishment .of a Soldiers’ Assistance Association or some such bodyj was given at a well attended meeting of representatives of local bodies at Hastings yesterday. It was decided to approach the authorities offering co-operation in such a project, and to this end a committee comprising representatives of all bodies was set up.

-Men who enlist for national service will have their affairs safeguarded by such an organisation. This body V. ill operate in collaboration with othei bodies, which will include the War Relief Association and Returned Soldiers’ Association.

A third resolution passed stated this meeting of representatives of Hastings Chamber of Commerce and other bodies desires: tb ex press the assurance that’if arid when’, in the opinion" of the GqV.ernment it becomes necessary to establish a national organisation to provide help for men who may be engaged in national service, in regard to management or conduct of farms, business or affairs during their absence those present and those whom they represent, pledge themselves to co-operate fully with the Government and to do all in their power to further such object. A copy of the resolution was sent to the Premier ahd Defence Minister.
