KING’S MESSAGE
TO MR. CHAMBERLAIN. (United Press Association —B f y Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at 10.15 a.m.) . LONDON, September 6. His Majesty sent the following message to Mr Neville Chamberlain: “In spite of our hopes and endeavours, we are compelled to resort to war. In' this grave crisis in the country’s fortunes, I wish to recognise the unremitting efforts of members of my Civil Service at Home and overseas, though the troubled years behind, both in promoting peace, and in preparing the country for the emergency now confronting us. Your work, which has earned the gratitude of fellow-citizens, will, I know, be carried on in the same spirit until peace is restored.”
