AVEST COAST UNION MEETING

Mr J. Guy presided at last evening’s meeting of the management committee of the AN cat Coast Rugby Union, which was attended by Messrs F. Eggle. ton, T. 'Mclntosh, ,). Steel, M. Olsen, A. M. Jamieson, F. AV. Baillie, T. P.

Ryan, I). R. Dowell and 0. McLean (secretary).

The AA'estland Sub-Union asked for a ruling as to whether a High School player, playing in open competition, was eligible to play for another . club in the junior competition. Mr Mclntosh said that to his mind, the hoy had no right to play. Vacation time did not come into the question at all. The chairman: If you rule that a school is a club, there is no question.

Mr Dowell said that evidently the Ross Club luul agreed to the hoy playing for Kiwis. The chairman pointed out that, it was necessary to get a transfer, from the school club to anv other club,, , , Air Jamieson said that the school club played in the open third grade competition.

Air Dowell said that the question had been raised by Air Harper, a member of the school staff, who was taking up the attitude that the boys must -play for the school. Mr Ryan said that the only effect was that playing the boy made it.crook for the club lie played for if the other club protested.

Mr Mclntosh moved and Mr Stool seconded that the AVestland Sub-Union be advised that the player was not entitled to play for Kiwis as he was already a member of the school team which was taking part in the Union’s competitions. The motion was carried, and it was also' decided to advise AVestland that college hoys home on holiday, must comply with the residential qualification, which, in the case of Greymouth, was six days. The United Club wrote explaining that they had not fulfilled their fixture with Excelsiors, because, although all their players were ready, they were under the impression that the postponement of Greymouth games applied'to also to Hokitika. On the motion of Alessrs Ryan and Steel the explanation was accepted, and it was decided that the forfeit of the match be declared void, and that in future any forfeits advised before, fixtures had been postponed by the Postponement Committee to be ineffective. ' Advice was received from the Hariliari Club that the game against Cobden had been cancelled. AVESTPORT, August 22.

The Primary Schools’ Rugby Tournament for the Seddon Shield, district Opened in fine weather at Westport to-day, teams from Buller, Nelson, Marlborough, Motueka-Golden. Bay, and AYest Coast participating. The boys arrived the previous afternoon, fit. and well, and this morning were accorded an official welcome by the Mayor, Air J. Kilkenny, and Air A. G: Colvin (President of the Buller Rugby Union). - v- :

This morning Buller played Motueka-Golden-Bay. coming- out the victors by 12* points to 3. Hanson ( Bullet winger), scored three great tries, and Beveridge (the other winger) scored the filial try. For the Bays, Drummond scored. Buller backs, in their game, showed supremacy. In the second game, Marlborough had an easy victory over AVest Coast by 24 . to 6. The half-time score was 3—all, and West Const held the stronger and faster team off well! The AVest Coast fulj-hack, Graham, played a good game, also did Wright and D. Steel.
