BOROUGH RATES
THE ESTIMATES APPROVED. AN INCREASE OF 2d IN £. At last night’s meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council the Estimates as drawn up by the Town Clerk (Mr G. 11. Coles) were considered at length and were finally approved. The elective rate roll under the new valuation amounts to £T8,600, an increase over the previous valuation of £8,600. ine rate to be struck will be 1/11 in tlie £ on the unimproved value, as against 1/9 struck last year. The main increase is due to the increased hospital levy and that particular rate is raised from 5Jd to 7d, while the sanitary fee will also he increased from 18/- to £1 per pan. - The rate is estimated to provide £7043, other receipts £3400, making a total revenue for the year of £10,943. The capital value of the Borough is about £471,392. showing an increase on the previous valuation of about 25 per cent., while the unimproved values show an increase of about 12J per cent. These figures are only approximate, as a number of valuations have been arranged and have not yet been balanced up.
