CORRESPONDENCE
GREEK CREEK CROSSING. (To The Editor). Sir, —We notice in the Engineer’s report handed in at the-last meeting of the County Council, that in company with the County Chairman, the Public Works Engineer and settlers of the district—be had visited the crossing at Greek’s Creek, Humphreys Road, to discuss the erection of a concrete culvert,: and that certain work was decided on. Would the Engineer ho. gopd enough ,to tell us how many of the, settlers attended ? One. would judge by. .the report that there was quite a. .nicei. little brow'd. We may be in error,’' but we imagine the number of settlers totalled one man and his dog, and there is no mention of ..building a bridge that we have been asking for, and been promised for the last three years.
We the undersigned, who are the persons most inconvenienced by this montrosity of a crossing never even knew that- a discussion was taking place, and would say further, that one part of the work deeided on is of very little value to us,,? this is the widening of the approaches upstream for horse traffic. What we want is a bridge of some description. Anything is better than what we are putting up with’ at present. Why all this fuss and conferences with Engineers and Chairman and settlors. If the Council would raise the approaches % little and put us up a wooden bridge, if it behaves ;.qs,-well., as the old one, they will have 20„years,.. to mix the concrete for a better-one.. Perhaps by then the majority of us, Councillors included, will have .passed over it for the last time. We are, etc. Four Settlers—Thos. Harris, Robert Harris, Robert Wilson, G. Hewlett.
