TWO KILLED'IN CAll SMASH. (Per Press Association-Copyright) CARTERTON, June 19. When . a motor-cycle struck a concrete telephone pole in Belvedere roau on Saturday night, one man was killed instantly. Another died in the Masterton Hospital next morning. The victims were: — Eric William Renner, a mechanic, aged 21, a son of Mr and Mrs J. Renner, Masterton. William Potten, a mechanic, aged 19, the only son of Mr and Mrs I. Potten, Grey tow n. Renner’s neck was broken. Potten .suffered head and body injuries. The machine was owned by Potten and ridden by Renner, with Potten on the pillion seat. The machine appeared to skid in soft earth and swerve into the po'e, which was broken by the impact. Tbe accident was neither seen nor heard, and it was only when the men were found to he missing that a search was made for them. CYCLIST INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH, June Id). Serious injuries were suffered by a cyclist, Lewis McKenzie, of 18 Beckenham Street, Beckenham, in a collision with a car at the intersection of Colombo and Brougham Streets, Sydenham, about 1 p.m. yesterday. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital and his condition early this morning was reported to be serious.
