Mr Savage indicated to-day that he would he transferring from his Molesworth Street residence to Northland in a few weeks’ time. His new home has eight rooms and overlooks the harbour. . . ?.
Mr Savage’s departure from the precincts of Parliament Buildings will break a tradition- that has .endured for years. It has always been considered advisable in the past that the Prime Minister should live as close as possible to Parliament., Buildings, a practice that ■no doubt .had much to commend it in the old days of indifferent transport and when “stonewalls” and long sitting; hours were a prominent feature of. Parliamentary procedure. . ' With more regular and better defined hours in the: House off Representatives and • the modern means of transport, the necessity for the Prime Minister being within easy call ha 3 largely disappeared.
