STRUCK BY BULLET,
GISBORNE, April 26. by a stray pea-rifle bullet; while walking over the hills near Wainui beach yesterday,. Robert McConnell, 15, was admitted to hospital last nightman operation being successful,, and the boy’s condition is satisfactory. The source of the shot was a mystery, as neither iVfcConnell nor his two companions saw anyone in the vicinity, or heard a shot. STANDARD BY-LAWS. CHRISTCHURCH, April 25. , Standard by-laws residential building—namely, for apartments, tenements, and nats—prepared by the;' New Zealand Standards Institute; were umtnimously, approved by the City Council at a special meeting, last, night. The by-laws aim at more healthy living conditions tn such buildings, and the prevention of overcrowding, and are designed by the Institute to remain operative for a year,, when any anomalies will-be removed. DEATH FROM INJURIES. WELLINGTON, April 26. A. Cockhead, of 160 Randwick road, died in hospital from head injuries and injuries to his spine and left shoulder, . from a fall about twelve feet down a pit in the railway yards on Monday.
