WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
HOKITIKA MEETING. Tile monthly meeting of the Hokitika Women’s Institute was held on Monday evening, Mrs Paterson presiding over an attendance of upwards of fifty members. The meeting was opened with the J singing of the Institute ode, followed by the re.ading of the aspirations by Airs Parkhill. During the business, nomination!! were called for president and committee. Later, a debate was held,' the subject being ‘‘that it,would be beneficial if all food were reduced fto lozenge form.” For the affirmative, Miss Dale, and Mesdames Jordan and Parkhill spoke, and Mesdames Sweney, Mclntyre, and Preston for the negative. The debate was a lively one, and at the conclusion, the judges, Misses Runciman and Govan, adjudged itlie affirmative side the winners.
After this a . most interesting talk on '“Historical Songs” was given by Miss Duff, and several of the numbers were sung, Misses Govan and Dale assisting with the pinging, and Miss Daly presiding .at. ;the piano. A very enthusiastic vote of thanks was passed to these ladies for their entertaining interlude.
The singing of the National Anthem brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
