PATIENT SUICIDES
LEAPS 45 FEET TO DEATH. SYDNEY, Feb. 6. . Shortly before he was to have been operated oh, a patient" leapt 45ft to' his death yesterday at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. r He made his jump from a window in ’ sight of the 18 other patients in the ward. • ' ' . • The victim was Walter : Greenfield, 54, ! of Valley Road; Springgswood. Greenfield was'suffering from a painful leg complaint. ; A sister and nurse attended him at 8 a.m. He then said he was feeling better than for some time. After they left lie sat 1 up 1 in bed for a few minutes, then went to an open window. Swiftly he climebd oil to the balcony ledge. A patient sprang from his bed and ran towards him. Other patients shouted to him to stop. But Greenfield jumped; and struck the concrete yard.. He is survived by a wife and three children.
