REGENT THEATRE. TO-NIGHT—FINALLY. “THE DIVORCE OF MADAME X.” The star attraction at the Regent Theatre this e.ening is. “The Divorce of Madame X,” starring Merle Oberon .and Lawrence Oliver,. and receives excellent support from Binuie Barnes, Ralph 1 Richardson, and Morton Selt-on. Tne y story, based on the famous play “Couna sel’s Opinion,” casts Merle as Leslie, y an attractive self-willed young debue tante who is stranded at the Royal a Parks Hotel owing to fog. No accominodation being available, Leslie sneaks into the room of a young barrister, Logan, and successfully argues him out f of his room and bed. Without disclose ‘ ing her identity Leslie leaves the hotel r early next morning and returns home to receive a warm reception from her pep. a pery grandfather, Judge Steele, who e demands explanations for her appearance at nine o’clock in the morning 1 dressed in men s pyjamas. That morning 3 Logan pleads a' divorce—Johnson v. ’ Johnson; before the judge. Leslie hears 1 the case and is piqued by. tlr,e young 1 barrister’s heated denudation of women 7 Meeting him again, Leslie realises that 1 horn is her opportunity to make sport of ’ the young woman-hater. With the aid ‘ of Lord and Lady Mere she carries on th deception that she is Lady Mere. After 7 a series Of amusing events the hoax 1 is exposed in a hilarious climax which ! results in Logan rushing off in a huff ' to “forget.” Leslie , overtakes him on--board a channel steamer, and convinces ; him that the best solution to any young barrister’s problems is a wife. THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.” “DANGER PATROL.” Three Hollywood favourites, Sally Eilers, John Beal , and Harry Carey, head the cast of “Danger Patrol,” new film melodrama from RKO Radio, The picture is a vivid-story of the professional handlers of high explosives in the Texas oil fields. Oarey is cast as a vet-. 1 eran “coup handler” and Miss Eilers portrays his daughter, while Beal plays a young ■ medical student who enters the industry to earn money for his education. A strong supporting cash appears with these, three players including Crawford Weaver, Ed. Gargan, Jack Arnold, Lee Patrick, Solly Ward and Richard Lane.
