After a meeting of minors, at flnntly at which a dispute which occurred at the Pnkorniro mine recently was discussed the men who were assembled to dbpart by train for the Pukemiro, Glen Afton, and Rotowaru mines decided not to go to work, and these mines were consequently idle on Thursday.

]f is stated that trouble at Pukemiro occurred as a result of u dispute between the men and management of flu* mine over the rate of playnunt for work in wet places, and some points as to measurement, ft was claimed by the men the conditions laid down in their award were not being adhered to. While the men’s claims in regard to the position at Pukemiro were being discussed on 1 he railway platform, it was thought that there was a likeli-t

hood of there being a shortage of railway trucks at the mines, making a lull day’s work improbable, and the men decided not to go out to the mines on that account. The secretary of the union, Mr T. Hall, stated that the decision of the men not to go to work had no connection with the dispute.

After a meeting of the executive committee of the union, it was announced that a satisfactory agreement had been reached in the majority of the points in dispute, bur two matters were still unsettled. Tbo executive recommended that the men should resume work. it was stated on behalf of the Railway Department that there was no shortage of trucks that would have prevented the mines from working.
