LABOUR DISPUTE

AS TO REPRESENTATIVE (Per Press Association.—Copyright). AUCKLAND, February 14. IVrtlier between opposing factions comprising Auckland District Council of the Federation of Labour are anticipated on Thursday evening, next, when a determined attempt will be made to remove from office, T. Stanley, the Council’s sole representative on the Federation of the National Council.

At . the December meeting, the local council delegates, by 65 votes to 55, passed a vote of no confidence in Stanley as its representative on the n*. tional body, the alleged ground being that lie opposed tiie recommendation of the National Executive that men involved in Otahuhu railway workshops’ strike should return to work pending investigation of their grievances. At the time the motion was Interpreted as the initial step in a campaign to purge the industrial movement in Auckland ot the more extreme elements, and it was exp'ected to precipitate Stanley’s resignation;

Stanley, however, promptly declared lie had no intention of resigning, and has not done so. Since December, the position has been considered by the National Executive of the Federation, which has now advised the District Council that, should it wish to pursue the matter further, it should declare Stanley’s position vacant, and appoint a successor.

Accordingly, at Thursday’s meeting, the President of the Council, F. G. Young, will move the following motion: “That in view of the resolution of no confidence passed on December 19 on T. Stanley, I give notice to move at next Council meeting, that the position be declared vacant and a successor be appointed forthwith.”
