Yesterday morning’s storm at Greymouth damaged a id ton crane on the wharf derailing it and injuring the gantry, which win tatve several weens to repair. A lot of minor damage was reported to power lines and buildings. At Reefton, steady rain, which at times readied tropical intensity, ana loud clap of thunder and vivid lightning, the Inangahua district experienced a very stormy day. Rain fell almost without cessation from late Saturday night until early Monday morning. Disturbances were heavy light wires at a bowser pump in the town were fused. The Inangahua. river is very swollen, but no damage is reported to roads or bridges.

A meeting of the H.D.H.S. Jubilee committee nekl last evening, decided to place the funds at its disposal, approximately £l6-5, in the hands of tlie school committee and request .it to expediate the arrangements in connection with the erection of a school swimming baths. It was stated at the meeting that a revised estimate of the cost of erecting the baths was £lOBl 4 2, to which the cost of materials contributed £422 14 0 and the cost of labour £65810 2. The Jubilee committee’s slum, of this expenditure was £222 14s, which however, would be reduced to £lB5 it a temporary fence, around the baths would suffice. When the Jubilee committee’s decision was conveyed to members at the meeting of the School committee, later in the evening and the position explained, it was unanimously decided that the offer be accepted and that the School committee undertake to find the £2O deficiency to enable an early start to made with the erection of the baths.

At the Borough Council meeting last, evening when the question of repairing the cycle track on Cass Square was being discussed C' l '. Heinz objected having permanent work being done to the path until the trees were dolt with as at present the roots of the big trees broke up any asphalt laid down, causing a waste of the expenditure. He had no objection to the roadway being put in order but objected to the laying of bitumen. Cr. Stopforth said the proposed expenditure would be large, the inside part to be sealed and the outside graded. The cost to the Council of the present proposals would be under £lO. After discussion the matter was left practically in the hands of the Reserves Committee of which Cr. Stopforth is chairman to make the most suitable arrangements possible to meet the wishes of the Sports Committee whom the Council generally desiie. 1o give every possible suppoit.
