retiring. (Per Press Association—-Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, December 5. After 40 years service with New Zealand Railways, Mr E. S. Brittenden, district traffic manager at Christchurch will retire as from January 1, 1939. Mr Brittenden who is now 55 years old has had a most successful career in the service and is one of the best known railway men in New Zealand.
