Whether it is a warning or an act of intimidation is not clear, but the insurgents have unprecedentedly informed 100 Loyalist towns and villages by wireless, that they will be bombed on dates which were not stated. The insurgents, the broadcast stated, will not hold themselves responsible for the results if the residents do not evacuate. BRITISH ATTITUDE. LONDON, December ,1. • Lord Plymouth has advised the Powers which sponsored thg, visit to Burgos of -Mr Francis Hemming, secretary to the board of the non-intervention com-
mittee, that Britain has no intention ' of departing from the British plan, and urging that measures be taken to prevent the dismemberment of the nonintervention committee.
RELEASE OF SHIPS. RUGBY, December 1. ’ -The - Prime Minister (Mr -Nev-i lie Chamberlain) announced in the House of Commons that two Greek ships were' under charter to the British Government to carry; cargoes of Rumanian wheat and which were, seized and taken into Palma Bay by the Spanish Nationalist naval forces, had been released and would sail to-morrow.
Mr Chamberlain added that the British Government was still in commnni cation with General Franco about other ships with British cargoes, which had been seized. BRITISH SHIP HELD. (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, December 2.
Fifteen vessels with British cargoes, mostly grain, are at present held by General Franco at Spanish ports. Cabinet, is specially considering the position.
It is understood Italy was informed that Franco’s action is intolerable, and was urged to exert her influence.
