ARRIVES IN N.Z. (Per Press Association—Copyright). WELLINGTON, August 30 Herr Ernst C. llamm, who arrived to-day by the Wanganella to 1 take up his duties as Consul-General of l'Germany, made - the 1 journey out alone, biit,will be joined soon, lie hopes, by his wife and child, no said in an interview. He has spent fifteen year s in-the diplomatic ■ service, comprising several years in Japan, Russia and Spain.
When asked his opinion as to the situation in these countries, he said that although it was only a few years since he had been there, subsequent events had probably made hiy opinion's out of date. He was in Tokio in 1926-28, Moscow in 1929,"and Madrid in 192932. For the last six years he had worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Berlin. He was especially glad fo be in Berlin in 1936 to' see the Olympic Games and one •of his best memories' was Seeing the New Zealand long-dis-tance chamnion, Lovelock; whose per- 1 formaline'and excellent stvlo Was much admired bv the Gentian public.
