A valuable part in distributing a summary, of cabled- news and Press Association messages from the North Island for publication in the morning papers of the South Island was played last night by the National Broadcasting Service. !
For the first time, the servicp acted as a distributor of news when communication between the two islands by telephone and telegraph lines was broken. Within 20 minutes of the scheduled broadcast, advice, was received by “The Press” by urgent service telegram from the United Press Association in Wellington, to have a staff of men on duty at a station whore 2YC, which was closing down on its. regular schedule, announced that the messages would bo broadcast at 10.40.
Reporters noted the summary, which was later transmitted- by telegraph to West Coast and southern newspaper offices. :ud.. -<«J • - ’ *'

Island should be given northern readers... a digest pi news collected from all parts of the South Island during the:afternoon and evening was prepared in “The Press” office by the Press Association, agent and broadcast bv 3 YA after its clay’s programme was ended.
