AVELLTNGTON, June 21

An order for a neiv trial, in the case in which a patient had proceeded successfully against her doctor, before a jury, ivas granted by Mr Justice Quiliiitm, in the Supreme Court. The hearing took place at Palmerston North three weeks ago. The plaintiff, Olive Rita Paterson, married, Palmerston North, sued Ivenrick Dean, medical practitioner, Palmerston North, for £750 general damages and £172 6s special damages, alleging negligent and unskilled treatment of an injured knee. Mr Justice Quilliam was on the bench. The jury returned a verdict for plaintiff mid 'aAViw’ded her £4OO 'general damages and £172 special damages. A iioav trial Avas asked lor on the grounds that the A'ordict Avas against the AA-cight of evidence, and that the damages Avere excessive.
