OPPONENT FOR HON. R. SEMPLE. *Per Press Association —Copyright). WELLINGTON, June 21. The President, of the New Zealand National Party, Mr ('. H. Weston, announced that Mr W. L. Barker of Wellington, a journalist, has been selected as the 'party's candidate for Wellington East electorate, at present held by Hon. TL Semple. introducing Mr Barker at a public meeting. Mr Weston said he had been a miner, a navvy, and a farmer and was now a journalist. Barker is aged 30 and was born in Bay of Plenty. After a break in bis education, he studied at Auckland and \ ictoria 1 Diversity Colleges, and was Now Zealand i'n i versify heavyweight boxing champion of New Zealand, a University rugby blue and a prominent debater.
