FALSE DECLARATIONS. tPer Press Assuciation —Copyright-. AUCKLAND June 17. Two summons charges of making false declarations of sales tax which were erroneous in certain particulars in relation to noti-taxable goods sold during September and October, were admitted by Robert Marshal), director of an Auckland company, before Mr Orr Walker to-dnv. The prosecuting counsel said in one case Marshall showed non-taxable goods as £338, .whereas it should have been £152, arid the following month showed them as £1,022, whereas, they should have been £269. Goods,were described as wire c ordage and coffin trimmings.. The tax evasions, had amounted to £9 and £37 respectively. The tax due had since been paid. Defending counsel said Marshall, on a small salary, had obtained no personal benefit and had foolishly conceived the idea of 'postponing or spreading his demands duo over a longer period than September and October, in view of having to pay large customs duties on goods expected in December. Ho bad lost all lie had put into the business wh'o’i was now in liquidation. On each of the two charges the Magistrate imposed the minimum fine of £25 and costs.
