MISHAP AT WAIMATE GORGE. (Per Press Association—Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, June 3. The driver, Charles Henry Ford, of Timarit, and a passenger, had a fortunate escape from serious injury When the motor-lorry in which they were travelling from Waihao Forks to Wainiate late on Wednesday evening, left .the rpad and. overturned near the Waimate end of the Waimate Gorge. Both men received only minor injuries and were able to walk to Waimate, hut the truck, which was owned by Cordials, Ltd.; Timaru, was laden with crates of bottles and was considerably damaged. Ford suffered an injury to his shoulder, hut both men Went cn -to Timaru that evening. ■ l ” j MISSING MAN FOUND DEAD. , NELSON, June 2. The body of Charles Albert Muir, single. 32, who had been missing since April 19, was found beside a gorse bush, by rabbit shooters, in a valley west of the Bishopdale railway station, last evening. Deceased" apparently wandered, until be became exhausted.
TRAIN EXAMINER KILLED. CHRISTCHURCH, June 3. James S. Reid, a middle-aged man, who had been employed as a train examiner at Springfield for about 14 years, Was killed last night when he was struck by a rake of trucks, which were being shunted at the Springfield station. Reid, who was a married man with a. family of four children, had been examining, a train when he was struck by a rake of trucks being shunted nearby from another train. He suffered severe injuries and death was instantaneous. BIGAMY CHARGE ADMITTED. HASTINGS, June 2. Pleading guilty to a bigamy charge before Justices of the Peace in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Noel Samuel BethwoTl, aged 30. a farm labourer, was committed to tlie Supreme Court for sentence. He made no application for bail.
