BRITISH ARMY RECRUITING.

RUGBY, May 25,
Recruiting officers from all parts of the’country reported a rush of recruits for the Regular Army last week. The total was 936, an increase of 614 or 190.7 per cent, over the corresponding period last year and a record for any week since the war. RE-ARMAMENT SPEED-UP. LONDON, May 26. Engineering employers at yesterday’s conference with the union discussed pian 5 for speeding up the Government's rearmament programme. It was suggested that women’s labour might ue introduced into certain sections of the arms jnuustry.
Mr Little, presidert of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, immediately said that the proposals were not acceptable. | Other union representatives declared that they coulcl not commit themselves until their .executives considered'the proposal.

The first “presentation party” ever held at Buckingham Palace was attended by 1200, of whom 800 were women Instead of each woman curtseying before the Thrones, there was general obeisance by the entire company when Their Majesties entered the ballroom, after which Their Majesties separated and mingled with the guests. MEDICAL STATIONS. WASHINGTON. May 25. President Roosevelt has signed a measure for providing fifteen million dollars for the establishment of nationwide medical stations for the treatment of syphilis. This marks the most ambitious drive against venereal disease that is believed to have been undertaken anywhere. The President praised women’s organisations who wore responsible for the passage of the law.
