MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OF HOKITIKA, Ladies and Gentlemen,— During the past few months tilt Council lias been engaged in installing a -new water supply system. It has spent about eigntetn, thousand pounds on the scheme for which a loan of .£IB,OOO was raised. Negotiating loans usually cost money but this loan was raised without expense, and at the restricted low rate of interest allowed bv law. Eleven miles ol' pipes have been laid with the necessary connections and tin' whole completed quietly and efficiently and the cost was within the limits of the Joan. The burden on the rati payers is tlierefoie as low as it is possible to be. Arrears of work in the Loro ugh have accumulated owing to the Borough staff having to devo.e its attention to the major work, but these arrears are now being o\ ertaken. I have referred to the above work as indicating the Council’s care and inin the towns affairs, generally. Further, I might add that with misleading schemes of borrowing and progress (for which extravagance is often a .-better name) a burden of tax might be placed on the ratepapers which would make it better to live out, of the town, than in it. This applies more §trongly to this town because most of the houses ale privately owned.» , As for myself, I have done what 1 could in the interests of the town, and during .vhe troubled . and anxious times through which we have passed, I have been as helpful as I could, officially and privately—more than most people know. The finances of the borough are in a sound state and should be kept so. Under the circumstances and in, view, of my services during the past 27 years, I feel justified in asking for yopr continued support at Wednesday’s poll.

GREYMOUTH HARBOUR BOARD. I am also a candidate for election to represent the Boroughs of Hokitika. Kumar a and Ros s on the Greymouth Harbour Board, on which I have been a representative for the past seven years. 1 would appreciate an extension of the confidence of the electors of the above district in this election also. Yours faithfully, GEORGE PERRY. NOTE—I would esteem it a favour if all electors make a point of recording their votes on Wednesday.

HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. TO THE ELECTORS OF HOKITIKA. Ladies and Gentlemen,— I again offer myself as a candidate at the forthcoming Borough Election. If elected, I shall do my utmost in white I believe to be the interest of the community. I shall endeavour to assist in maintaining/ the present sound condition of the finances of the borough while at the same time advocating immediate attention to such urgent works as the tar sealing of the streets, etc. Those works, given a continuance of past judicious management, may now he accomplished without imposing an unnecessary burden , upon ratepavers. Faithfully vours, H L. MICHEL. Hokitika, May 9, 1938.

BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OF HOKITIKA. Ladies and Gentlemen, — Having been nominated for a seat on the Borough Council, L respectfully solicit your vote and interest on my behalf on polling day. All my interests are bound up in the town, and, if elected, 1 will do my utmost to further your best interests, and that of the town and district generally. Yours faithfully, 0. caltari. Polling Day, Wednesday, May IT, 9 a.m. io 7 p.m

BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTIONS. TO THE ELECTORS OF HOKITIKA. Ladies and Gentlemen—--1 am again offering inv services as n candidate for .tin* Borough Council. During the fifteen years I have been a Councillor, I have to the best of my ability acted in the best interest of the Town and if again elected, will continue so to do.

Now that the reticulation has been renewed, the Council should be in a position to attend to roads, footpstf hs and other necessary works. Whilst there are many works necessary and desirable, f believe in making progress steadily and without imposing any undue hardship upon the ratepayers Trusting to have your support at tomorrow’s poll. Yours faithfully. A. R; ELCQCE.
