ALLEGED CAR CONVERSION
OAMARU, May 2
At 3.30 o’clock on Saturday morning the Oamaru police were advised from Timaru that a motorist going south had stolen petrol. A watch was kept and a car came into Oamaru at a terrific speed. The police requisitioned a taxi and pursued the car to Kakanui, where it was found on the side of the road with two passengers alongside. The driver made, off, but was overtaken.
Oswald Oliver Wahrlich, aged 23, an insurance agent, of Christchurch, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with the conversion of a car valued at £3OO, the theft of 12 gallons of petrol at Timaru, failihg to stop when signalled, and with dangerous driving. For the theft of the petrol, Wahrlich was fined £2O, in default one month; and on the conversion charge, he was remanded to Christchurch.
