EE-OPENING APPROVED. DEATH OF NAVAL SEAMEN. (Per Press Association —Copyright) AUCKLAND, February 9. Approval of an application for the rcropening of an inquest 'concerning the deaths of three seamen from the cruiser, Leander, who were drowneu off Karakii Bay, Auckland Harbour, on September 30, when a galley capsized during a race, has- been given by the Attorney-General,' (Hon. In the course of a telephone conver-' sation with Wellington this morning, the Minister said that application for the re-opening of an inquiry had been placed before him, and that, after consideration, he had decided ‘to give Ins approval, hut the final decision would have to be given by the Supreme Court. All the papers, he added, had been sent forward. When the inquest was held, the Coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, returned a verdict of accidental deatn, but afterwards made an addition to his finding which he forwarded to the Under-Secretarv of Justice.
Tn addition, Mr Hunt lmd said since the injury was closed, that the Auckland harbourmaster had publicly stated he had been notified by the Achillis of the accident about an hour earlier than the time stated by LieutenantCommander Lloyd at the inquest. If this was so, an explanation would be required.
