AIR DISASTER
FRENCH FLYING BOAT CRASHES. THREE OF CREW KILLED. (United Press Association — P* Electri* Telegi aph— Copy right). Received this day at 12 noon). MARSEILLES, February 9. A flyingboat hound for Ajaccio (Corsica); crashed into a mole which Was obscured by a fog when taking off from the Marigane aerodrome. The machine was smashed to pieces. There wei-e aboard eight persons, including five passengers Three of the crew were killed instantly and six others were seriously injured. There were ho British people aboard. Three women are arnorig the dead. A fourth jumped into tlie sea, with hat hair in flames. She was picked up seriously injured. All the dead were in the front, of the machine. The others escaped through a rear door.
There was a great flash of flame when the flying-boat hit a mole. It had been unable to gain sufficient altitude to clear the jetty. The chief pilot, who was killed, had 10,800 flying hours to his credit. Desjpite consternation, another seaplane left for Algiers only a few minutes later, carrying four passengers, who witnessed the loss of file flying-boat.
