APPOINTMENTS
TO. LEG. COUNCIL

WELLINGTON, September 22. Rt Hon M. J. Savage, Prime Alinister, to-night announced five new appointments to the Legislative Council. They are as follows: Rev John Kendrick Archer, of Christchurch.
Mr John Edward Duncan, farmer, of Wharepulmnga. Air Francis Edward O’Flynn, teacher, of Hornby. Air Jonathan Trevethick, of Auckland.
Air David Wilson, secretary, of Wellington.
Of the five appointments to the Legislative Council announced this evening by the Prime Minister Air Savage. Air Jonathan Trevethick, of Auckland, was formerly a member of the Council. Mr David Wilson of Wellington, is the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Five members of the council, Hon, AT. Fagan, and Alossrs R. Masters (Taranaki), D. Buddo (Canterbury), R. McCallum (Marlborough), ,T. Trevethick retired last June, they having completed their terms of appointment.
Hon M. Fagan, who is Leader of the Council, was immediately re-ap-pointed, bnt the matter of further appointments had been left nnuecided until to-day.
The strength of the Council is now 38.
It- is gathered from the Prime Alinister that two further appointments aro to be made.
The Hon John Edward Duncan is a farmer, residing at Whnrepuhunga, near Te Awamntu, in the Waikato district.
The Hon F. C. O’Flynn is a native of the West Coast. Air O’Flynn joined the teaching profession in youth, and became headmaister of Dobson School. When a school was established at ivnnanga at the commencement of the State coal mining venture. Air O’Flynn was appointed headmaster, and held the position for a number of years. He then obtained promotion to Canterbury, and only recently retired from the headmastership of the public school at Hornby, Christchurch. The Hon David Wilson, is the Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party, preceding the Hon W. Nash in that capacity two years ago. He is regarded as a most- efficient officer of the Party.
The Hon J. Trevethick was previously a member of the Upper House having been appointed in 1929 by *Sir Joseph Ward, and having last year retired when his term ended. Rev G- K. Archer is one of the best known figures in the political Labour movement »in Chitpftchurch and has been several times Mayor of the city.
