HURT IN MILL

DRAGGED INTO MACHINE. SYDNEY, September 20. Seaton Orchard, 25, of Tweedmouth' Avenue, Rosebery, was badly crushed by machinery when he was caught up by a fast-moving belt at Woolcraft Mills, Alexandria, yesterday. Standing .on a platform near the machinery, Orchard was whitewashing the walls. As he stepped back, the belt caught the back of his woollen jumper. Orchard was dragged toward the machinery calling for help. The man in charge of the plant immediately shut off the power and stopped the belt in .15 seconds. Orchard’s chest was badly crushed, several of his ribs were fractured, and he was bleeding badly from the head. Workmates had to cut his clothing before he could be freed. Last night Orchard’s condition was serious. While workmates were freeing Orchard, part of the glass skylight above one of the looms was broken, and one of the warps was damaged by glass. Mascot police later arrested three youths, and charged them with malicious damage.'
