COMPENSATION

SUPPLY OF FAULTY FLOUR. (Per Press Association —Copyright). WELLINGTON, September 21. A Ilutt Valley baker lias by private settlement been awarded several hundred pounds made up on a contributory basis from the Wheat Committee and the millers concerned in a legal claim he commenced against a firm of merchants for the sum of £I6OO as compensation for damage to his business and resultant loss of goodwill arising from the supply to him of faulty flour. The solicitor for the linker, in outlining the above position to-day, stated that the claim was lodged against the merchants as vendors. They joined as a party the Wheat Committee, and it in turn joined the millers who made the particular flour. The merchants were indemnified b.v the Government against payment of damages on any claim arising out of the sale of detective flour. A substantial settlement was made on a contributory basis bv the added defendants, the Wheat Committee and the millers. Last year the Government had extended the activities of the Wheat Committee to flour; before that it had handled wheat onlv.
