HON N. F. BRUNNER

N.S.W. DEPUTY-PREMIER AIR SEMPLE’S REMARKS CRITICISED (Per Press Association —Copyright; AUCKLAND, September 20. “1 hear that your Air Semple has been saying that lie could not unueistand why we bad State Governments in Australia, instead ol a centralised authority,” said -the Hon M. F. Bi-uxne I ', Deputy-Premier of New South Wales, on lus arrival by the Aorangi. He was referring to a statement reported to have been made by the lion B. Semple after the latter’s recent visit to Australia. “It would have been better had •Alt' Semple taken into consideration the facts before he spoke. What he did not pause to think was that while New Zealand has a population of a. million and a half, New South Wales alqne has a population of two and a half millions, with an area ot 300,000 square miles.

New South Wale’s budget, is of £60,000,000 annually, compared with New Zealand’s £40,000,000. So if Air Semple finds his own job a fulltime one in New Zealahd, what must it be in each of the Australian States. Moreover, New South Wales is growing and will be a bi ger place than what New Zealand ever will!”
