TO FIRST STATE HOUSE. MINISTERS- CARRY FURNITURE. (Per Press Association -Copyright). WELLINGTON, September 19. The remarkable sight of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage), the Minister Tor Finance (the Hon. W T . Nash), the Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. Jones), and the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple), all in shirtsleeves in public, was thoroughly enjoyed by a. crowd of about 300 on Saturday afternoon, when a ceremony was held at Miramar to mark the occupation of the first State house of the group built here. The house is occupied by Mr and Mrs D. McGregor and their family. The Mi nisters, after congratulatory speeches, took off their coats and helped to carry in several pieces of furniture. Mr J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary in Charge of Housing, was “Master of Ceremonies.” Mr Savage said that New Zealand was at least 20 years behind the times in housing—in money, between £16,500,000 and £17,500,000 behind to-day’s requirements.
