Described as “Princess Übangi, a tree-climbing specimen from the "Übangi Forest, Africa,” a dark-skinned pigmy woman who arrived at Wellington by the “Awatea” was not seen by many oh the ship. The occurrence has been reported to the police. CIVIL ENGINEERS. WELLINGTON, September 16. A special general meeting of the Society of Civil Engineers was held last night to change the name to N.Z. Invstitutioji of Engineers. The matter was submitted to branches following the annual meeting at Christchurch and branches in every case favoured the change. A referendum was held and 80 per cent, of the valid votes were in favour. It is now confidently hoped that engineers who held aloof from the opinion that they could not claim to be civil, engineers, will now join up with the institution.

The Conciliation Council in the New. Zealand passenger transport drivers’ dispute, failed to reach an agreement on the major issues of hours and wages, and they referred it to the •Arbitration Court. Employers offered an increase in wages if employees would agree to the retention of the present 88 hour fortnight, but the offer was not accepted.
