Finishing on splendidly, Refund outstayed the favourite, Sandusky, in the first race for the Wellington Stakes, a classic race for three-year-olds, do cided at the spring meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club at Hutt Park to-day. Two’s Loose, the second favourite, was third, but he was squarely beaten. Conditions were good and there was a good attendance. The track was holding. Results were:—

Nan Nai Handicap—s-3 Debutante 1 ; 4-6 Winnie Parrish 2; 2-2 Indolent 3. All started. Won by three lengths; a length. Time 3.38 4-5.

At a judicial inquiry after the Nai Nai Handicap, it was decided to disqualify Dark ‘Hazard for excessive galloping in the straight, third place being 'awarded to Indolent. (Dark Hazard finished third on a break, and was distanced for galloping. Hutt Park Trial Handicap.—2-1 Tarnna 1 ; 8-6 Adversity 2; 4-8 Snowy Bingen 3. Won by two lengths; one length. Time 3.37. The Wanganui J.C. spring meeting was concluded in fine weather. The course was in excellent order. There was a large attendance. Mala had a convincing victory in the Chelmsford Stakes at Tattersall’s races. The pace-makers early were El Senoritn and Silver Standard, but Mala was always handy and finished strongly. Results: Tramway Handicap—Lough Neagh 1, Prittle Prattle 2, Alight Not 3. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time 1.23, an Australian record. Chelmsford Stakes —Mala 1, Silver Standard 2, Allunga 3. Royal Order was unplaced in the Moonee Valley Stakes. Midaore and Membo were unplaced in the A fount Cotterill Steeples, and Desert Chief was unplaced in the mtdgeree Handicap.
