KILLED BY MOTORIST. (Per Press Kssociation—Copyright). AUCKLAND, September 11. Struck down by a motor car as lie stepped from the footpath to cross a street in Mount Albert road at about 0.30 o'c look on Saturday evening, I Harold Arthur Rogers, a single man, aged 50 years, died in the Auckland Hospital this morning. Concussion, a compound fracture of the right arm, and injuries to his back, were suffered by Rogers, who was a war pensioner. Three persons witnessed the accident. A description of the motor car, which did not stop was given to the police. ACCIDENTALLY SHOT ASHBURTON, September 13. Albert William Murdoch, a middle aged carrier, was admitted to hospital in a very serious condition from a rifle bullet wound in the neck, -the missile entering the chin. Murdoch was unable to make a statement, but the occurrence was accidental, the rifle having been left behind a washhouse door by the victim s eldest son. . PRISON ESCAPEES. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 13. As a sequel to an attempt to escape from Paparua Prison on 'September 8, Philip Daniel Trainor, .a labourer, aged 24, and John Hemj Wilson, a labourer, aged 25, pleaded guilty to-day to a charge of escaping from prison and were committed foisentence. r lhe escape was disciibecl by Reginald Coles, prison warder, who said the two men when working in a shingle pit at 4.25 p.m. last Wednesday dropped their tools and bolted from the top of the pit. Coles gave chase on a Mcyclc and a sentry gave the alarm. Coles saw the prisoners enter the freezing works, and later with police and warders located 1 rafnor and Wilson inside. They hid in a tallow vat and climbed to the rafters from where they were dislodged by a fire hose.
