pbvo hundred men staged a demonstration yesterday afternoon against a Merriekville grocer who was selling bread at 4d a loaf. They were exentually removed by the Dcdice, and tip. grocer announced that from to-day he would sell bread at 3>d a loaf.
“I do not care what they try, T still think that bread can be sold at 4d a loaf with a decent profit to the retailer,” said Mr F. Caplan, om Caphui Bros., last night. “I have had repeated requests from the Master Bakers’ Association to put up my prices, but I have ignored them.
“Shortly before 5 p.tn. to-day about 290 men gathered round the shop. Things looked pretty black. - “'f hey cried out that 1 was doing them out of work by undercutting, and so forth. “They looked so menacing that I finaiTv called the police, who removed them. “we have three shops, and to-day they will commence to sell bread at 3.}d a loaf. That’s my reply.”
