The secretary of the New Zealand 'PimMr Workers’ Union, Mr F. L. Turley, has received advice that the registration of a union covering the whole of tho Dominion with the exception of a few small unions which have not yet come into line, has been granted from September 8.

The m.v. Gael "ill load a. full cargo of timber, machinery and stores at Greymouth on September 18 for the establishment of a base camp at Jackson Hay. included in the cargo will he a punt for transporting equipment from the ship to the shore, until a landing stage is built. A party of men will also proceed south with the vessel. The Public Works Department is receiving applications from young men anxious to make a start in the new locality.

Mr J. O’Brien. M.P., received the following telegram yesterday in reply to his telegram ol' August 3rd., to the Minister of Public Works regarding the blockage at the mouth of the Hokitika River, resulting from the deposit of sand and shingle across the bar: “The Public Works Department recommends the construction of a narrow pilot across the bar. I am conferring with the Hon. [Minister ol Labour, Mr^Webb in connection with the possibility of the utilisation ol No. 5 Scheme labour for this work. (Signed) R. Semple.”
