WON BY N.Z.

BY ONE GOAL TO NIL.

(Australian Press Association).

SYDNEY, August 15.

New (Zealand defeated Australia, in the hockey test match yesterday, by one goal to nil. The attendance was 4000. The ground was sodden, but the weather was line. Australia 'was a very poor side compared with the inter-state teams.

New Zealand was easily the better team. Fine play by the Australian backs prevented a greater score. Clark, the New Zealand back, was the outstanding player on the field. He hit the ball with tremendous nower, twice sending it the full length of the" field in the air—an amazing exhibition. The New Zealand half-backs, 'Robertson and Watson, were splendid in attack. They were greatly assisted by Dev, who scored the only goal. Duffield and Roughton were prominent in the forwards.
