HOUSING SCHEME
BALLOT FOR TENANTS.

AVELLINGTON August 11
There are three hundred and eighty houses being constructed in the first 't m'tract tinder the 'Government’s housing scheme at Afiramar. These houses are now, well advanced.
A ballot has been held of the prospective tenants for the houses. The result will lx* forwarded, without delay, to all of the applicants. The applicants aggregate over two thousand.
The first group of the houses will he ready lor occupation in the next two or three weeks.
FAIR RENTS ACT.
AA'ELLTNGTON August 11
Rt. Hon. AI. J. Savage to-day stated that he is having an investigation made into the effect of the operation, of the Fair Rents Act, which expires on September 30. If it was. doing benefit which they thought, he said, it would continue.
