DISPUTED ANCHORAGE REPORTS. WELLINGTON, July 9. Asked to comment on the reports about a disputed anchorage at Canton Island, between naval ships of the New Zealand and United States solar ecilpse expeditions, the Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) said to-day that tile Government had been unaware of the incidents referred to. When’the information was received it was immediately transmitted to the British authorities, who were responsible for the control of the Pacific islands. ; In the last year dr two certain Pacific Islands, whose very existence was previously ignored, had come to be recognised as having great value. New Zealand, of course, was ritually interested in tran.s-Pacific aviation, and questions affecting British sovereignty •in tho Pacific area had been the -subject of representations to the Home authorities.
