SAWMILt FATALITY. <Pei Press Association —Copyright). WESTPORT, June 13. An accident which occurred to M,r William Rea, a single man, aged 25 years, on Friday at.) Mackley’s Mill, Berlin’s, Buller Gorge, proved fatal yesterday. Rea, who belonged to Westport, had his head injured when jacking up a log on the skids at the mill. The jack slipped, causing Rea to fall and strike his head on it heavily. He succumbed to his injuries yesterday at Buller Hospital. Ho was a son of Mr and Mrs James ltea, Westport.
EXPRESS HITS MOTOR-CAR. INVERCARGILL, Jun e 13. (There was a collision between a motor car and the express from Christchurch, at /Morton Mains, last night. The driver of the ear was killed and a passenger was seriously injured. • They were:— Killed.—Allen McDougalj Muir, aged 31, a gold miner, recently employed at Waikaia and residing at 60 Gladstone Road, North East Valley, Dunedin; serious head injuries. f
Injured.—Violet Ross,, aged 21, daughter of John ‘Ross, Waimumii Road, Mat a lira ; an extensive V scalp wound, cuts abrasions and severe shock.
The injured girl /and the body of Muir were brought to Invercargill by the express, which arrived two hours late. Miss Boss was admitted to Southland Hospital; Although her injuries are severe, her condition to-day is not serious.
