New Zealand recovered gloriously for the first time during the tour giving i a demonstration of their capacity to fight hack. Seven wickets fell for sixty-eight runs in an hour during the mormng hut Weir and Lowry rescued the tourists with a magnifieant stand. Lowry defended stoutly while Weir fiercely attacked the howling. After lunch he reached a chanceless century, the first of the tour. A 55 run partnership for the last' wicket was also a gratifying feature of the day’s play.
