LAND OF TERROR

IN YUGOSLAVIA (United Press Association —By Electrir Telegraph-Copyright). LONDON, .Tune 11. "The latest land of terror is in Yugoslavia,” says the “Daily Herald,” which claims that the prisons there are full of men and women, whose only offence has been to criticise the Government or the police. It says that even children who visited the home of the suspects were put in gaol for days or weeks, while their parents wee questioned. The “Daily Herald” alleges, that confessions have been extorted from the prisoners, and that it was done bv means of a number of tortures, including flogging, mutilation, applying eggs taken from boiling water to the armpits, and forcing needles under the fingernails? The paper added that men ana women were treated in such a way that they were doomed to frightful diseas throughout their life, if ever they left prison. A careless word or I an attempt to resist police brutality ! were adequate reasons for arrest and torture.
