BASKETBALL
KNOCK-OUT TOURNAMENT. Yesterday the Hokitika Backetball Sub-Association held its annual knockout competition for the King’s Birthday cup. The All Saints’ tennis courts lookeu gay and attractive in the sunshine, forming a background for the gaily-coioured uniforms of the players. Eleven teams took, .part,„and results were as folfdvVs \ (f\vJ iy vf First round:—School A defeated' Koiterangi Ts7~Str Marys- A defeated Old Girls B; Koiterangi A defeated St. Marys B; Old Girls A defeated School C; Convent defeated School B,; . ll(t/ School B (a bye); ... Y. ... Second round : —School A defeated Convent; Old Girls A defeated School B; Koiterangi A and St. Marys A byes. ■ 1 - ' Semi-final: —Old. Girls A defeated Koiterangi 3/2; St. Marys A defeated School A 2/1. Both were excellent games. . ;y' Final:—Old Girls A defeated-St. Marys A 5/3, in a very even and fast game. After the tournament ) the St.- Marys team captain, Miss M. Groufsky, presented the cup to the captain of the Old Girls A team, Miss S. Gooeli. The referees were Mrs A. Stevenson- Miss E. Dale; Miss A. Duff, and Miss EParlane. Mrs Fane, the president, acted as time-keeper,
