PROFIT TAX LIMITATION. LONDON, May 17. A joint committee from the Associated Chamber of Commerce the Federation of British Industries, the Chamber of Shipping, the Mining Asscociation of Britain, the Iron and Steel Federation, and Lloyd’s Baltic Exchange has prepared a report to the Chancellor of the Exchequer strongly advocating that the defence contribution be limited to a fixed percentage of total profits, in no case more than 10 per cent; that the duty necessitating a precise calculation of capital be abandoned, and that a profits standard —optional to the tax payer—he substituted for that of the basic years. It also suggests that a tribunal with wide powers he appointed to deal with special eases.

The British Legion at the conclusion of it annual conference decided to eliminate the word Ex-eneniy from the correspondence from headquarters. The conference adopted the suggestion of ■international pilgrimage to the battlefield in 1938, a delegation to visit Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Rumania in connection with the scheme.

HISTORY AGREEMENT BERLIN, May 18. Representatives of German and French teachers of history reached an agreement regarding the interpretation of modern historical events in school teaching for the two nations. Tne agreement embraced articles on the leading events of the French and German history from the French' Revolution to the present day.

HONORARY DEGREES. LONDON, May 18. Honorary degrees will be conferred on Messrs Nash and Lyons at Cambridge University on June 10.
