TAKEN FROM YOUTH’S LUNG. I Rot I’reab Association — Copyright). AUCKLAND, May 14. About 8 o’clock this morning Doug a; AlcLellan, a youth, aged 17, residing t ueimieia, walked into the X-r. y depaitment ol the Wallace ward at the Auckland Hospital. A few minutes later he had been X-rayed and when the plate was developed it revealed that in the left lung was- a home-made dart, a needle about an inch and a quarter in length, on the end of which was a small piece of cork. M hen “shooting” the youth had accidentally drawn the dart through the tube, simiar to that of a pea-shooter, and swallowed it. A prominent honorary sur eon to the hospital this morning per formed an operation on McLel an and ’•emoved the dart. The operation oe copied three minutes. Tt is a remarkable coincidence that in less than a week two similar and unusual opera tions should be performed at tdie Auckland Hospital. On Saturday a hov. six years of age, Russel Derrick H 11, of Bombay, was X-rayed and the plate revc-a led that lie had swallowed la needle. On Tuesday the same honorary surueon who operated to-day removed the needle in exactly one minute ,o> ' seconds.
