A GIRL’S SPEECH
•AND A CHILD SHALL LEAD THEM’ BARADINE, May 10. An unexpected speech by a little girl to-day hushed a large gathering, and visibly affected the Minister for Mines and Forests (Mr Vincent). Mr Vincent had laid the foundation stone of the forestry administration building, the first step in a large-scale reafforestation plan. Shyly, a small girl, Jilll Harris, moved a vote of thanks to him, and her simple, yet significant words, took nearly everyone by surprise. “You have started something which is really' for the children: that is why we thank you,” she said. “If grown-up people were selfish and used up all the good things which God has given us and left the children in debt it would not be a very nice world for us to live in. “But you and the grown-ups of Bnradme and the Forestry Commission are doing a good deed on May Day which is the children’s day and we thank yon very much.”
