It seems odd to reflect to-day that only seventy years ago there were no cigarettes—they hadn’t been invented. When they made their first appearance in London they were regarded as just a passing fancy to pipe smokers; as for ladies they hadn’t learned to smoke then or for many a year after that. And now millions of smokers of Loth sexes delight in cigarettes, and what’s more, about 80 per cent of them roll their own. Here in N.Z. the two, most favoured cigarette tobaccos are River head Gold and Desert Gold, and 3 t ou can roll ten beauties of either for 4d. or less. Yes! they’re toasted — that’s why they’re so good ! Cut Plug No 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish, and Navy Cut No 3 (Bulldog) are toasted, too, ’but they’re for the pipe, and for solid comfort and enjoyment there’s nothing to touch them. No harm in them either—they’re toasted ! There •was a time when smokers used to ask where they could buy these brands. They know better now—it’s at the nearest tobacconists. —Advt.
