HERO OF LINER
BABY WITH BROKEN LEGS.
SYDNEY, February 4
With both legs broken, one of which was suspended in the air from the cot he had occupied 011 the liner Moreton Bay for nearly a month, Alex Low, aged 4, saw Sydney yesterday through a porthole, and kept on smiling. ' From Britain to Aden, with nis sandy hair and winning ways, Alex, a Scot, had been the idol of the ship. Two heavy life rafts, weighing about Bcwt., broke loose in a roll after the lashings had been loosened by children. They struck the child. The ship’s surgeon set the hnibs immediately. There was never a whimper from Alex, who christened his battered legs “Bubble” and “Squeak,” after his favourite dish. Unfortunately, on reaching the first port, it was found that one limb had become an inch shorter than the other, so the brave little patient had to submit to a heavy weight being placed on it to stretch it to normal. •v Yesterday he was taken ashoie to have his feet X-rayed again. No patient who ever went down a - ship’s gangway wore a more cheerful smile or gave his many well-wishers a happier farewell than wee Alex, lhe crew gave him a hearty cheer.
